Habitat

African Spurred Tortoises belong to the land tortoise family. They live in western Africa into eastern Sudan.

Diet

African Spurred Tortoises live mainly on plants. They have slow locomotion, and usually grow very old. The animals can reach a body weight of 100 kilograms. The African Spurred Tortoise’s shell length grows to a maximum length of 83 centimeters.

Natural behavior

African Spurred Tortoises, unlike Water and Swamp turtles, cannot swim. In fact, many tortoises are said to drown if they enter deep water.
